In the plant kingdom, there are thousands of fruit and nut species of tropical origin that may be considered for Commercial Development. However, the re is a much smaller number that actually succeed commercially. This paper presents broad criteria that may be utilized in screening these fruits for Commercial Development. As a second step, the paper shows how to develop specific criteria for determining Commercial Success in a given region or Agro-ecological Zone. Finally, Liebig's Law of the Minimum is discussed in relation to the criteria, along with development opportunities, potential problems / constraints and specific key extension points, required for success.
