Effects of gibberellin on production of quality shoots of date palm (Phoenix dactylifera L.) In vitro.
2004
Al-Khateeb, A. A.
The study was conducted to determine the possibility of utilizing GA3 to produce healthy in vitro date palm shoots in short period. The influence of different GA3 concentration on shoot proliferation and elongation of date palm (Phoenix dactylifera L.) was investigated. Data of this study have shown that the proper concentration of GA3 in the growth medium for production of optimum number of in vitro date palm shoots and with good morphological condition for proper in vitro rooting ranges between 0.2-0.4 mg l-¹. On the other hand, mean shoot regeneration and elongation was highest on medium containing high GA3 concentration (0.6 mg l-¹. and above). The quality of those shoots, however, was very poor as they were extremely thin and probably incapable of proper in vitro rooting.
