Malaysia is fortunate to be blessed with plentiful of supplies of petroleum and natural gas. These two energy resources have largely contributed to the Malaysian economy in the past. However, it is expected that Malaysia`s supply of oil is depleting. Moreover, greater environmental awareness and increasing energy consumption due to rapid industrialisation have made it necessary for Malaysia to examine and make the initiative to move into using other alternative energy resources and strengthening energy efficiency efforts in Malaysia. In ensuring the successful implementation of renewable energy and energy efficiency development, financial support and fiscal incentives are the essential element that should be viewed immensely. It is the intention of this paper to discuss the potential financial and fiscal areas in renewable energy and energy efficiency development including various government initiatives in the Malaysian electricity industry. The chapter will also highlight Malaysia energy mix and future energy demand. It is a challenge for Malaysia to exploit domestic "green" energy resources thus reducing dependence on energy imports and technologies. Efforts are underway to embark on programmes to demonstrate and evaluate the viability of renewable energy and energy efficiency technologies.
