This study is based on authors` experience at a petrochemical plant site located in Terengganu, East Coast of Malay Peninsular. layers of coastal sand with a thickness of 30 to 50 m cover the entire area of the site. The SPT N-values of the sand very widely from 7 to more than 50. Deformation moduli of the sand very widely from 7 to more than 50. Deformation moduli of the sand layer were obtained using dilatometer and pressurement test. The deformation moduli were compared with each other, SPT N-value and q sub(c) of CPTand their relationships are proposed. Immediate settlement of a tank with a diameter of 72 m was predicted using SPT N-value (Burland and Burbidge Method). The actual settlement of the tank measured in the hydrostatic test was smaller than the predicted settlement. Deformation moduli of the sand layers was then back-calculated using linear elastic FEM and the relationship of E sub(s) = 4.6N (MN/square meter) is obtained.
