There were 25,830 registered beekeepers in Serbia in 2018, who kept almost 1.3 million hives, in which 6,000 to 10,000 t of honey were produced. The annual income from the export of about 2,000 t of honey is around ?15 million. Apiculture and bees? health care are governed by the Law on veterinary medicine and several regulations, which intend to be similar to those in the European Union. The beekeepers? rights and obligations related to apiculture, in compliance with the Law on veterinary medicine, Law on animal husbandry and the related regulations are discussed. Attention has been driven to the Standard of good beekeeping practice, which relates to the activities in beekeeping, and the production and trade in honey and other bee products.
