The aim of this paper is to describe complex homeoretic and homeostaticmechanisms in dairy cows during the peripartum period. The endocrine systemhas a key function in regulating the adaptation of metabolism during theperipartum period. Homeoresis represents the functioning of the endocrinesystem and metabolism in conditions when the organism must primarily providecertain physiological processes, such as fetal growth or lactation. Then the functionof all tissues is adjusted to the new situation. Homeoretic hormones (growthhormone, prolactin, glucocorticosteroids, thyroid hormones, insulin, glucagon andleptin) in dairy cows in the peripartum period play a key role in maintaining highlactation and maintaining cow health.
