Today biomass is seen as an energy source with the greatest perspective in terms of reducing greenhouse gases emissions. In Serbia biomass has a large potential, is available in many forms and can be obtained from various sources. On the other hand, this very diversity makes it as difficult and complex fuel. A high percentage of potassium and chlorine, together with a high percentage of ash in some types of biofuels proved to be a major source of problems. The technology in fluidized bed combustion (FB) is one of the most effective thanks to its flexibility and efficiency. Some agro biomass combustion in FB can cause problems with the operation of the plant due to the sticking of sand particles. For solving these problems with sticking sand particles is an important prerequisite for the successful use of biomass as fuel. The aim of this paper is to analyze the content of potassium in inert material of FB and monitoring of eventual increases during plant operation.
