In this study, the effects of singular and double combinations of Arbuscular Mycorrhizal Fungi (AMF) and whey (PAS) were investigated on the growth of melon wilt disease caused by Fusarium oxysporum f.sp. melonis (L&C) Synd. & Hansen which has been known as an important problem of melon cultivation and leading yield losses. In the first stage of the study, under controlled conditions, three melon cultivars were inoculated (Ananas, Akhisar and Hasanbey) with three different AMF strains (Gigaspora margarita, Glomus intraradices and commercially AMF Symbion vam plus) in order to determine the most appropriate combination of melon cultivar and AMF species to be used in studies. While each AMF species colonized between 18.89 - 97.28 % on three melon varieties, mycorrhizal dependency ratio changed between 6.77-32.92%. The best affinity was determined between Akhisar x Symbion vam plus combination in point of not only colonization but also mycorrhizal dependency and this combination used in the second experiment. In this second stage, it was determined effects of AMF and whey applications on the inoculated Fusarium oxysporium f.sp. melonis melon plants. At the end of the study, it was found that the applications of AMF and whey were encouraged melon plant growth positively. Similar results were also determined in terms of plant macro nutrient contents, and especially phosphorus content of melon plants with AMF+PAS significantly increased in comparison with those with AMF (-). Therefore, AMF and whey applications (single or combined) were effective by reducing the incidence of disease severity between 33.3 - 53.3%.
