Looking back at the 1988 presidentialcampaign the charges traded overgrain embargoes, supply management,and Belgian endive were, to say the least,less than enlightening. It was a campaignshort on specifics but long on accusationsand ridicule. Perhaps that's because theissues facing American agriculture todaydo not readily lend themselves to 30-secondTV commercials or stagedpolitical events.
