The purpose of the research is to assess determinants of competition in the social market economyand enterprises. Two research methods was applied: literature review and benchmarking. The resultsof conducted analysis indicate that the social market economy based on free competition creates betterconditions of economy development than neo-liberalism, providing the balance between private and socialaims and higher consistency with sustainable development theory. Interference of market mechanism withadministrative competition reduces effectiveness of public support and its transparency and social justice.
