Variation in protein content of haemolymph of 'AK' grasshopper during nymphal and adult development

Fed with different host plants, variation in protein content of haemolymph of 'AK' grasshopper (Poecilocerus pictus) during nymphal and adult development was studied. The protein concentration was 28.9 mg/g in Aak, 23.6 mg/g in cotton and 20.5 mg/g in papaya when fed to the nymphs of Poeciloceru spictus. Whereas, the concentration was 31.7 mg/g in Aak, 26.7 mg/g in cotton and 20.5 mg/g in papaya when fed to the adults. The maximum and minimum percentage of protein concentration was observed in Aak and papaya leaves, respectively in both nymphs and adults. The maximum utilization of proteins by nymphs and adults during metabolism was higher in Aak,whereas, the dietary regimes cotton and papaya leaves shows values lower than Aak. The per cent transmission of proteins in nymphs and adults from dietary regimes to haemolymph was maximum in Aak, minimum in papaya leaves, and intermediate in cotton.
