Knowledge of biomass, structure and state of exploitation of the populations of fish resources is an indispensable basis on which the strategy of marine fisheries is built, both in countries where this activity is already developed, and in those where its development is still planned. Although small-scale coastal fishing is of low intensity, it catches quality specimens of economically important fish. Its more precise monitoring has started through the Data Collection Framework Regulation (DCFR) of on marine fisheries in accordance with the EU directive, financed by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development. In relation to trawling, it is a more selective way of fishing, because it uses passive nets and other tools, which do not harm the seabed.
