The effects of different rooting media and IBA doses on rooting of rosemary (rosmarinus officinalis L.) stem cuttings

This study was carried out to determine the effects of different rooting media (soil, peat, perlite, cocopeat and vermiculite) and IBA concentrations (Control–0, 1500, 2500, 3500 and 4500 ppm) on cutting propagation of rosemary (Rosmarinus officinalis L.). The cuttings taken from the Medicinal and Aromatic Plants Experimental Area of Atatürk Central Horticultural Research Institute in 2018 were treated with different IBA doses and planted to different rooting media in greenhouse in accordance with the completely randomized design with three replications. After 60 days, rooting rate (%), cutting height (cm), root length (cm), root number (unit), cutting fresh weight (g), root fresh weight (g) cutting dry weight (g) and root dry weight (g) values were determined. All features examined showed statistically significant differences between rooting environments and IBA doses. When rooting media was evaluated, it was determined that peat and perlite, were first place, followed by cocopeat and vermiculite. In general, increased values were obtained in parallel with increasing IBA doses and most of the components increased from 2500 ppm. As a result of this research, it was determined that 4500 ppm IBA dose and all the rooting media especially peat and perlite, except the soil were suitable for rooting in the propagation of rosemary cuttings.
