El objetivo de la investigación fue determinar la influencia de la cobertura arbórea sobre la abundancia, diversidad y distribución de las aves en diferentes hábitats en el área de Cañas, Costa Rica. Se caracterizó y evaluó la composición, estructura y diversidad arbórea en hábitats con diferente cobertura (fragmentos de bosque seco, bosques riparios, charrales, cercas vivas, potreros de alta cobertura y potreros de baja cobertura) en un paisaje altamente fragmentado. También se comparó la riqueza y abundancia de aves que dutilizan diferentes tipos de hábitats, además se evaluó la relación existente entre las características vegetales (riqueza, diversidad, densidad) y espaciales (área, perímetro, índice área-perímetro, porcentaje de cobertura arbórea) y la diversidad aviar de los diferentes hábitats dentro de este paisaje.

anglais. This research main objective was to determine the influence of tree coverage over the abundance, diversity and distribution of birds in different habitats in the area of Cañas, Costa Rica. The composition, structure and tree diversity was characterized and evaluated in habitats with different tree coverage (dry forest fragments, riparian forests, scrubs, live fences, pastureland of high coverage and pastureland of low coverage) in a highly fragmented landscape. The abundance of birds that use the different types of habitats was compared, the existing relationship between the characteristics of the plant community (abundance, diversity, density) the spatial characteristics (area, perimeter, area-perimeter index, and percentage of tree coverage) and the bird diversity of the different habitat in this landscape was also evaluated.
