Comparison of four educational methods of sound film utilization [study conducted in the Philippines]

The effectiveness of four educational methods of sound film utilization was compared among 50 subjects from three barangays and two municipalities in Batangas. The subjects were randomly chosen and divided into five groups: group 1 -film only; group 2 - film with overview lecture; group 3 -film with summary; group 4 - film with overview and summary lectures; and group 5 - control. The basic treatment material was a 16 mm sound film presenting information on improved backyard cattle raising technology. The results of the experiment showed that the four educational methods of film utilization were effective in increasing the subject's knowledge level. Film with summary lecture and film with overview and summary lectures were superior to either film only or film with overview lecture. Likewise, film with overview lecture drew higher knowledge gain scores than film only. No significant difference was observed between film with summary lecture and film with overview and summary lectures
