Study on the chemical composition of rock phosphates in Thailand for calculating the amount of acid used in superphosphate production

Chemical composition of 8 Thai rock phosphate samples from 4 sources, Lampoon, Chainat, Petchboon and Rachburi provinces were analysed for total P205, water soluble P205, citrate soluble P205, citrate insoluble P205, Mg0, K20, Na20, Fe203, Al203, F, Cd, Zn, Cu, Ni, Pb, and moisture to differentiate its characteristics. The results showed many differences. Total P205 of some samples were so high that could produce superphosphate consisting of available P205 over 18%. Generally they contained low F, fairly high A1203 and high Zn/Cd ratio. One sample from Rachburi was chosen to react with H2S04 to produce superphospate. The ration of acid and rok could be calculated on the basis of Ca0, P205 and F from the equation; A=0.691 (R-1) P, then 5% 10% over and under-acidulated were prepared for superphosphate production. After curing for 1 month, they were all used as phosphatesource fr corn grown on Pakchong soil series. They were no significant differuperphosphate production. After curing for 1 month, they were all used as phosprences among 5 kinds of produced superphosphate on 60-day dry weight, height, and total phosphate uptake. However, without cost consideration, superphosphate produced from H2S04 equivalent to rock phosphate should be recommended because it could raise available P205 to 19.92%. This superphosphate contained less than 2% free phosphoric acid and 83.6% P205 conversion. Physical quality was much better; non gummy; non sticky and easy to excavate from the prepared materials
