Effects of different rates of organic manures and chemical fertilizer and its residues on growth and yield of field corn [Suwan] on Pakchong soil [Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand]

A study on the effects of different rates of organic manures and chemical fertilizer and their residues on growth of Suwan 1 corn on Pakchong soil were conducted at the National Corn and Sorghum Research Center, Pakchong, Nakornrajasima. Three kinds of organic manures-chicken, cattle and swine at the rate of 0, 500, 750 and 1,000 kilogram per rai and chemical fertilizer at the rate of 0, 25, 50 and 75 kilogram per rai were used in the split plot design. Results showed that the application of chemical fertilizer provided better performance at early growth stages as revealed in plant. height, plant dry matter and earlier flowering date than organic manure. Chicken manure and swine manure provided better growth and development than cattle manure, but there was no significant differences in grain yield and seed weight. There was no significant differences in yield application of chemical fertilizer at the rate of 25, 50 and 75 kilograms per rai. Application of organic manure at the rate of 750 kilograms per rai or higher showed the best results
