Preliminary field control of Cephalcia abietis L. (Hymenoptera, Pamphilidae) larvae with steinernematid nematodes in Czechoslovakia
1986
Mracek, Z. | David, L.
The sawfly, Cephalcia abietis L. is a dangerous pest of spruce monocultures causing serious economic losses to these stands. Therefore, we tested the effect of infective larvae of nematode Steinernema kraussei introducted to the forest ecosystem on diapausing larvae of the pest. According to our results from five experimental plots in a forest ecosystem, the mortality rate of sawflies after hibernation was 81-97 per cent. The incidence of nematodes in the locality was confirmed one year after their introduction to it. It is suggested that the nematode could be used to supplement a biological control of the sawfly
