Split applications of nitrogen for ramie under subtropical conditions
1985
Sarkar, A. | Sarkar, G. (Jute Agricultural Research Institute, Nilganj, Barrackpore (India))
Ramie was grown during 1981-1982 and 1982-1983 with four cuttings/year. N was applied as urea as (1) a single application, (2) in two split dressings, and (3) in three split dressings at rates of 25, 50 and 75 kg N/ha at each cutting. Highest fibre yield, dry matter (DM) production and N uptake resulted from the two-split application of N at all levels. Soil (nitrate) nitrogen analyses after each cutting showed that the double split application at 50 kg N/ha per cutting gave maximum soil N content. DM and fibre yield were enhanced with increase in N rate up to 50 kg N/ha and declined at 75 kg N/ha
