Automatic dairy husbandry - a utopia?
1986
Schoen, H. (Bundesforschungsanstalt fuer Landwirtschaft, Braunschweig (Germany, F.R.). Inst. fuer Betriebstechnik)
Electronic-technical progress makes automatic dairy husbandry possible. The central technical problem is the attaching of the milking unit. Through the automation of this procedure, not man, but the animal would determine the production process in a "self-service-system". With this, a number of problems in present housing systems with species adapted keeping, a more efficient use of the means of production and improved working conditions (having to meet milking schedules) would be solved. Since these technical possibilities, which are feasible in the foreseeable future, would change the manner and structure of dairy husbandry, considerations should be made in advance about the manner of development, so that this technology is accessible to farm families, in order to secure their competiveness on a long-term basis.
