shSulphur deficiencies in Bangladesh soils are widespread and responses to its application have been reported on different crops. Laboratory studies have shown that out of 22 representative soil samples, 17 were found to contain available SO(4)-S below the critical level (14 kg/100 ml). Greenhouse studies also indicated significant yield reduction of sorghum when used as an indicator plant in the sulphur deficient soils. Sulphur application was beneficial in other soils, too. Field studies carried out throughout the countries have also demonstrated the significant positive yield increases due to added sulphur for rice, wheat, maize, potato, tobacco, groundnut, sugarcane, mustard, cabbage, blackgram, mungbean and sweet pot
