Number of striped rice borer, Chilo suppressalis W., moths caught by a light trap from 33 areas throughout Korea were observed from 1966 to 1987. The catches began to decline in 1970s from the very large catches in late 1960s, but have increased again since 1984. There were a little fluctuations in the second brood moths, but wide decreases in the first one before 1985. Rate of 2nd brood moths among total moths have increased to about 60 % since 1985 from about 20 % late 1970s. It is assumed that insecticide applications and transplanting or harvesting time of rice plant have contributed to the prevalence of striped rice borer
