The experiment was conducted to obtain basic information on breeding of flu-cured tobacco varieties. Nine cultivars and partial diallel set of 36 F1 hybrids were grown at Taegu Experiment Station, Korea Ginseng and Tobacco Research Inst. in 1983. The average heterosis for yield, stalk height, leaf weight, leaf length, leaf width and midrib wei2048ght was significantly positive. Negative heterosis was shown for leaves per plant, days to flower and leaf shape index. The estimated variance in the general combining ability (GCA) was highly sognificant for all characters and specific combining ability (SCA) also showed significance for all characters except reducing sugar content and leaf length in the middle leaves. The variance of GCA was larger than SCA for all characters. NC2326 and NC628 had high positive GCA effect for yield, leaf weight, leaf length, leaf width, midrib weight and midrib width. Mc Nair 373 and DG-72 showed negative GCA effect for all characters of leaf and midrib in the both stalk posit
