Development of first division restitution and synaptic mutant clones for potato breeding

This work has been performed to select diploid potato clones which produce 2n gametes by sexual polyploidization. Diploid clones of S. tuberosum group Stenotomum and group phureja which have not been selected for 2n gametes were used as well as the selected 2n gamete producing diploid clones. The inter-crossed progenies of these clones were studied cytologically to select 2n pollen producing plants. The rate of 2n pollen production, selected by the pollen size and dyad formation at the tetrad stage, was higher in the progenies of FDR-FDR than in the progenies of FDR-diploid or diploi1541d-diploid. Both of FDR by psps gene and SDR by pc1pc1 and pc2pc2 were found as the mechanism of the dyad formation. Four clones were selected, because they were found to have psps-genes as well as synaptic mutant genes, sysy. Therefore, the parents of these clones were infered to be hetrozygotes for the synaptic mutant genes. Four clones out of 120 were selected as 2n egg producing diploids by 2x-4x crosses.
