Field experiment was conducted to evaluate the yield response of Sobaekbyeo, Japonica type, to nitrogen and phosphate fertilizer in the alpine region. When the ammonium sulfate and fused phosphate were applied as basal the highest yield of rice was obtained. There was highly significant positive correlation between the yield and the nitrogen content in the rice plant at heading stage but not between the yield and the phosphate contents. The nitrog1362en uptake of the rice plant from the soil was greatly affected by the amounts of NH4-N in the soil at fourteen days after transplanting the rice seed
