The lesser grain borer, Rhizopertha dominica (F) has gained primary importance in the safe storage of rice and has attained dominance over Sitophilus spp. This new situation called for the modification of present pest control1792strategies and relevant warehouse management practices. The Economic Threshold Level (ETL) was established at 5.17 months in rough rice and 2.94 months in corn. The Economic Injury Level (EIL) was attained after holding paddy for 7.6 months in storage. In corn, the EIL was measured at 3.1 months in storage. Populations of R. dominica, Sitophilus spp., Tribolium castaneum (Herbst), Oryzaephilus surinamensis (L.) and Cryptolestes spp. occurred at all heights and in all grids of the stack, even penetrating the core of the pile. However, the relative abundance of these pests varied with height and grid. Methacrifos generally showed higher efficiency than pirimiphos-methyl in keeping levels of insect population significantly lower. However, these findings need further verificat
