Comparative study on inoculated cowpea and mungbean as green manure [Philippines]

Cowpea and mungbean were plowed under the soil at 25 days after emergence, at flowering, and at first harvest. Results disclosed that cowpea nor mungbean that were plowed under the soil at different times did not give any significant effect on the organic matter, N, P and K contents of the soil but soil pH was significantly influenced by the time of plowing underneath. Mungbean produced greater number and weight of nodules at flowering than cowpea. Dry matter yield was significantly higher at first harvest than at flowering and at 25 days after emergence
