Profitability of plant production on light soils was studied over a period of 21 years. Three fields were taken into account with respect to their quality of soils, the level of fertilization calculated in pure component2048s, yields in cereal units, direct costs and their structure per one ha and per a cereal unit. By assuming fixed prices it was possible to avoid the influence of their changes on the level of profitability. The profitability index in calculating costs was 111, 161, 150 respectively for the first, second and third field. Yields reached and the type of plants cultivated were the decisive factors in this
