Urea treatment significantly increased voluntary intake of roughage and of total dry matter by the heifers. Limited supplementation did not affect the total feed intake. Urea also improved significantly in vitro digestibility as well as in vitro apparent dry matter digestibi1869lity (IVADMD) of straw, estimated with the use of acid-insoluble ash marker. Limited supplementation further improved IVADMD significantly. Heifers on treated straw had higher blood urea-nitrogen content. Treated straw with 0 supplementation produced the significantly highest adjusted value of blood urea-N in the heifers 3 hours after feeding. Total serum protein was not affected by urea treatment or supplementation. As feeding technique, it appears more economical to improve feeding value of rice straw by urea treatment than through concentrate supplementat
