Contributions of Romanian scientifical research regarding the role of organic matter in soil fertilization and fertility

The paper contains a presentation of the research carried out in Romania regarding the role of organic matter in soil fertilization and fertility. Brief remarks are made on the important contributions in this field brought by well known Romanian scietists such as: Ion Ionescu de la Brad, Gh. Ionescu Sisesti, N. Hulpoi, Gr. Coculescu. Then the present results of the research on the importance of organic matter in the soil and of the various organic matters (manure, composts, organic fertilizers) both in supplying the nutrients for plant nutrition and in controlling some of the physical, chemical and biological characteristics of the soil which define fertility are surveyed. The means for including the organic fertilization into the cropping technologies in a rational way, in orde0698r to make a maximum profil of their energetical and nutritive values are also described
