Regulating factors of ethylene production in apple fruits. Pt. 2. Effect of abscisic acid on the rate of ethylene production, 1-aminocyclopropane-1-carboxylic acid (ACC) content and ACC conversion to ethylene
1987
Plich, H. (Research Institute of Pomology and Floriculture, Skierniewice (Poland))
Abscisic acid (ABA), applied to intact apple fruit Jonathan cv., attached to a shoot, greatly accelerated the rate of ethylene evolution, and was followed by faster fruit ripening, but did not affect the characteristic time course changes in the 1-aminocyclopropane-1-carboxylic acid (ACC) level in apple flesh. The higher rate of C2H4 production in ABA-treated apples in comparison to the control was probably a result of the faster breakdown of ACC due to the increased level of ABA. (Author)
