The susceptibility of 14 wheat cultivars against the flag smut disease, incited by Urocystis tritici Koern, was studied. Results of 3-year study in the field, using inoculum from the middle region of Iraq (Baghdad province), showed that Mexipack was highly susceptible, while Ajeba and Inia-66 were moderatly susceptible. Using spores collected from the north (Nineveh Province) gave similar results with the exception of Nori-70 and Aras which were intermediate. This suggests that the two groups of inoculum may represent two or possibly more different phyisological races of the same incitant. Results of seed treatment with ten fungicides used were effective in controlling the disease, however, homai benlate (benomyl) and dithane S-60 were the most effective ones
