The incidence of Salmonella in the intestinal content of dead and healthy starlings, trapped in Mosul area was investigated. Out of 224 starlings, 19(8.4%) were found carriers of Salmonella with a notably higher prevalence in dead starlings (9.4%) as compared with healthy starlings (7%). The isolates were S. hessarek (7), S. anatum (5), S. typhimurium (4), S. muenster (2) and S. braenderup (1). The possible role of starlings in the contamination of the environment and transmission of infections to humans and grazing livestock is discussed
