This contribution deals with information transmission systems. For the cooperation between industrial nations and Third World countries in the area of agriculture, the import of intellectual capital in the form of Scientific of Technical Information (STI) will play an increasingly larger role. Apart from traditional methods of information transmission such as scientific literature, film material, audio cassettes and microfilms, electronic systems are becoming important. Particularly for African countries and small developing countries generally the CD-ROM technology, which has been available since 1984, appears promising. The advantages and costs of this system are described in detail.
