Functional analysis of a picker in dependence on the shape and properties of gherkins
1990
Fiala, O. (Jednotne Zemedelske Druzstvo, Velke Bilovice (CSFR))
Analyzing the operation of the separating mechanism of a once-over gherkin picker, mathematical relations describing its operation were formulated: the characteristics under study were the passage of gherkins and their picking by a pair of counter-rotating rollers. The most suitable shape of gherkin, compatible with system of harvest, was specified in the same way. This is the hemispherical end which guarantees the least possibility of gherkin damage by rubbing in the rollers and the highest performance of the rollers when picking small gherkins, which are required so much by the processing industry. The curves of the optimum pattern of attachment power and fruit firmness have been determined in their mutual dependences and with respect to the quality of picker operation.
