The current economic importance of snap bean in the developing world and the potential impact of snap bean research is addressed. A revision is made of snap bean production to identify research strategies that can reduce the possible supply deficit. Data is presented on the current value of snap bean production, estimated future demand, and the potential impact of research. Following is a description of snap bean production and identification of production and marketing constraints. Potential research benefits are estimated and the implications for future research are discussed
