A new model for the estimation of the digestible nutrient content and the energetic feeding value was investigated. The basic idea of this approach is to estimate the faecal nutrients excreted by the animal as a proportion of the dry matter intake. By evaluation of a bulk of data gained from digestibility trials in sheep mean values and estimation function for the nutrient excretion were ascertained. Generalizing these figures a rational system of equations for the estimation of DOMD or ME in silages is suggested.
