IRRI-designed rice threshers in Malawi: A report on motordriven axial-flow rice threshers newly introduced on irrigated rice schemes

Six axial flow rice threshers built based on the IIRI TH-8 axial flow threshers have been introduced onto six irrigated rice schemes in Malawi. Limited evaluation indicates that they are potentially better than other types of threshers tried before. Before further attempts are made to encourage their adoption using the hire system a thorough evaluation is recommended to establish the optimum combination of cylinder speed, windboard position and air intake control position. Ways of organizing the hire system are also suggested
