The results showed that the calves had better welfare conditions with a six-hour drinking interval than with a four-hours drinking interval. This welfare was reflected in the significantly longer lying and rumination time, total rumination time, shorter standing time and lower stay frequency in a drinking box without receiving milk replacer ration. Adaptation of calves to drinking feeder was also investigated on condition that the calves were sucking cow's milk from nursing cows since birth. The best results of adaptation were recorded in calves transferred to drinking feeder at the age of eight days.
