Regeneration of dipterocarpaceae : some pathological aspects

The commercial need of dipterocarp plantations stresses the importance of pathological studies on young stages. The dangerous propagation of the pathogens in nurseries and plantations can be avoided with a sound knowledge of potential diseases and of the development of the disease in the host. Among the parasites responsible for damping-off, mortality of seedling and saplings, both in natural forests and plantations, the genera Fusarium, Cylindrocarpon, Pythium and Cylindrocladium have been determined as the most common and pathogenic. Fusaraium sacchari var. sacchari has been isolated from Vatica pauciflora, Shorea seminis and S. leprosula, F. moniliforme from S. javanica, F. oxysporum from S. pinanga and Hopea mangerawan, Cylindrocladium sp. and Phytium sp. from seeds of S. pinanga. On samplings, Marasmius sp. is a parasite which leads to withering of the host.
