Effect of NaCl on growth, seed protein and oil contents of some cultivars/line of brown mustard (Brassica juncea (L.) Czern and Coss)

anglais. NaCl tolerance of five cultivars/lines of Brassica juncea (L.) Czern. and Coss. was assessed at early vegetative growth and at the adult stage, using salinized sand and culture. Cvs BM-1 and LL-84 had significantly greater fresh and dry plant biomass than the other cultivars/lines, cv RL-18 being the lowest in biomass production at 100 and 200 mol m-3 NaCl. Analysis of the plant material for different ions content showed that cvs BM-1 and LL-84 contained lower Na+ and Cl but had higher Ca2+ and K+ contents in the shoots and lower Na+/K+ ratios than the other cultivars/lines. The NaCl tolerance of all the cultivars/lines observed at the early vegetative stage was conferred at the adult stage, as the cvs BM-1 and LL-84 had higher seed yield at all the NaCl concentrations than the other cultivars/lines. Cv RL-18 did not survive till maturity. The total seed protein in cvs BM-1 and LL-84 was not affected by increasing NaCl concentration. However, the seed oil content decreased consistently in all cultivars at 200 mol m-3 NaCl. A considerable amount of intraspecific variation for NaCl tolerance was observed in B. juncea

italien. [E' stata studiata la tolleranza a NaCl di cinque linee/cultivar di Brassica juncea (L.) Czern. and Coss., allo stadio iniziale e adulto di crescita, per mezzo di una coltura su sabbia arricchita di sale. Le Cvs BM-1 e LL-84 presentavano una biomassa, misurata come tal quale e sostanza secca, considerevolmente maggiore delle altre linee/cultivars, essendo la cv RL-18 la minore per produzione di biomassa a 100 e 200 mol m-3 di NaCl. L'analisi della pianta per il contenuto di ioni ha mostrato che le cvs BM-1 e LL-84 contenevano meno Na+ e Cl- ma avevano maggior contenuto di Ca+2 e K+ nei germogli e piu' bassa proporzione di Na+/K+ delle altre linee/cultivar. La tolleranza a NaCl delle linee/cultivars osservate allo stadio vegetativo iniziale e' stato attribuito allo stadio adulto, dal momento che le cvs BM-1 e LL-84 avevano una piu' elevata resa a tutte le concentrazioni di NaCl delle altre linee/cultivar. La Cv RL-18 non e' sopravvissuta fino alla maturita'. Le proteine totali dei semi nelle cultivar BM-1 e LL-84 non erano influenzate dalla concentrazione crescente di NaCl. Comunque, il contenuto di olio dei semi diminuiva considerevolmente in tutte le cultivar a 200 mol m-3 Na Cl.
