Population structure of Erysiphe graminis f. sp. hordei in barley plots seed-treated with various systemic fungicides

Random samples of the Erysiphe graminis f. sp. hordei populations present in four barley plots grown at a single location either from untreated or from triadimenol-, flutriafol- or flutriafol + ethirimol-treated seed differed significantly for virulence composition and triadimenol sensitivity distribution. Furthermore, sporulation capacity varied in a 5:1 ratio in a subsample including 40 single-colony insolates, either recovered from the triadimenol- or the flutriafol-treated plots or maintained in pure culture for several years in the laboratory. No correlation was found between virulence and triadimenol sensitivity characteristics, nor between these traits and sporulation capacity
