The effect of different amounts of MCPA (300-4800 g/ha) with and without splitting on field horsetail (Equisetum arvense L.) was studied in a trial on waste land. Regrowth in spring after the year of application was the measure for the control effect. The standard dose (1200 g/MCPA) reduced regrowth only 50 % in the following year. A higher dose than the standard one did not improve the efficacy. The lower doses had mostly a slightly reduced effect. But in tendency, splitting had a slightly better effect with lower doses than with higher ones. A full control was achieved with all treatments after 3-4 years, regardless of the doses
