Survey of intestinal parasitism in the exotic animals at Dusit Zoo, Thailand

Faeces of 222 exotic animals (58 species) at Dusit 300 were collected in 10 % formalin solution and examined by using formalin-ether sedimentation technique. From 616 samples examined, positive with 8.77 % hook worm in Leopard cat, Hog deer, Fea's Muntjak, Sambar deer, Follow deer, African wild Ass, Leopard, Cloulded Leopard, Tiger, Golden-cat, Lion, Large spolted civet, Small indian civet, Small-claw-other, Malayan porcupine, Brush-Tailed porcupine, Lessor mouse deer, Fishing cat, Malayan sun bear, Asiatic black bear, Common palm-civet, Linsang; 7.47 % Strongyloides spp. in Hog deer, Fea's Muntjak, Sambar deer, Sika deer, Asiatic elephant, Water deer deer, Leopard, Golden cat, Slow loris, Raccoon, Javan Mongoose, Lesser mouse deer, Barking deer, Tapir; 1.95 % Toxocara spp. in Clouded Leopard, Lion; 1.13 % Trichuris spp. in Bison, Giraffe, Ferrit Badger, Eld's deer; 0.65 % Ascaris spp. in wild boar, Deffassia, Water buck; 0.16 % Hymenolepis diminuta in lessor mouse deer; 0.16 % Hymenolepis nana in Eld's deer; 0.16 % Taenia spp. in Common palm civet; 0.32 % Diphyllobothrium-like spp. in Leopard, Clouded Leopard; 3.08 % Unidentified Fluke in Leopard cat, Hog deer, Garyal Leopard, Clouded Leopard, Lion, Large spolted civet 0.65 % Fasciola-like spp. in elephant, Golden cat 0.65 % Opisthorchis viverini in leopard cat, fishing cat. Intestinal protozoa were also found such as 1.79 % Entamoeba coli in Spotted deer, Hog deer, Grant's Zebra, Western Grey Kangaroo, Gayal African wild Ass, Serow; 1.62 % Entamoeba histolytica in Spotted deer, Eld's deer, Ban teng, Brust-Tailed porcupine, Lessor-mouse deer; 0.81 % Endolymax nana in Ban teng, Asiatic elephant, Hog deer, Spotted deer; 0.16 % Chilomastix mesmli in Gayal; 0.16 % Giardia spp. in Asiatic elephant; 0.48 % Iodamoeba butschlii in Marsh buck, lessor mouse deer.
