The two Italian cuckoos are examined to understand their importance in the biological control of some species of hairy caterpillars, refused from the major part of vertebrate predators. In particular seem to be important: the big dimension of birds and the quantities of preyed insects, the absence of parental cares and the assembling possibility in proliferatio areas of the larvae, and the use of various bird species - of no value in biological control - to breed the young cuckoos
