Metosulam is a new triazolopyrimidine herbicide for pre-and post-emergence control of broadleaved weeds in maize, including triazine-resistant species. At pre-emergence application 30 g ai/ha provide good control of important weeds in maize such as Chenopodium spp., Stellaria media, Matricaria spp., Anthemis spp., Galinsoga spp., Polygonum persicaria and volunteer rape. Metosulam applied post-emergence (cotyledone - 2 leaf stage of the weeds) requires the addition of an adjuvant to the spray solution, especially under dry conditions at application. In combination with suitable adjuvants metosulam at 30 g ai/ha is very active against the most important weeds in maize when applied early-postemergence. Likewise, metosulam gives very good control of advanced weed stages (up to 6 true leaves) when used in combination with other typical post-emergence herbicides in maize. Bromoxynil proved to be an excellent partner for metosulam being superior to all other tested partner candidates. With reduced rates of 20 g/ha metosulam + 225 g/ha bromoxynil good control was achieved for all important broadleaved weeds in maize except Polygonum aviculare
