Influence of reduced herbicide doses on weed suppression and seed production

Our investigations were, once again, directed towards a gradual dying off of the weeds. Among other things simultaneous soil-cover effects were supposed to be achieved. Therefore, in addition to reduced doses and repeated split applications, tribenuron-methyl (pointer) of the group of sulfonylurea was used as a herbicide, favouring a long-drawn-out dying off of the weeds. Compared to the degree of efficacy, achieved so far with reduced doses of herbicide and split applications, our results confirmed good weed control effects. The single application of a quarter of the standard dose no longer sufficed in the case of the herbicide applied and the prevalent spectrum of weeds. The calculation of the dry weight of the weeds is a better indication of the reduced weed competition caused by damage and suppression of growth than an effect based on the number of weeds. By reducing and staggering the time of the application of the herbicide dose, the seed production is somewhat more restricted than the dry weight of the weeds
