To-day's fluctuating demands of wood market and fast development of wood-transformation technologies require the constuction of stem volume-tables that enable log volumes predictions according to log dimensions (diameter and height) variably determined. Many methods are used to construct such kind of volume-tables. One of these is known as "ratio method", bacause it requires to establish the ratioes existing between commercial volumes of variably dimensioned logs and total volume of the stem. An equations system makes it possible to estimate conversion factors of total volume in merchantable volume on the grounds of stem diameter at breast height and of minimum diameter of logs; other chances lie in making use of total stem height and minimum length of logs. Such kind of prediction models were constructed for high-tree stands deriving from coppices in Tuscany. These log volume-tables are supplied with sub-models for the estimate of stem total volume under bark and for the estimate of ratio between stump volume and stem total volume
