The common cockchafer (Melolontha melolontha L.) has to be taken serious again in Baden-Wuerttemberg (Southwest of Germany)
1994
Froeschle, M. (Landesanstalt fuer Pflanzenschutz, Stuttgart (Germany))
The time between the last control measures against the common cockchafer in part of the district of northern Baden and the beginning of a new outbreak in the same region took about ten years. Starting in 1989 a heavy increase of grub density and grub damage can be observed nowadays. Preventive and control measures actually available are based on methods elaborated in the early fifties. However, with the increase of infestation and considering the present conditions of the agrarian structure, particularly the extensive farm management, these methods might not be sufficient to prevent damages. Deficiencies in the concept presented in this paper should be cleared before the outbreak has reached its culmination point. Experiments for a new direction of cockchafer control are performed
