Millet, the principal semi-arid crop of the Sahel, is attacked by a number of pest species throughout the area. The interactions of the pests with each other, the crop, the weather and the other local factors produce widely varying effects on the crop yield and so the economic justification for control measures will alter from year to year and place to place.
